We are offering a full time Band 5 Paediatric Audiologist post within our expanding Paediatric Audiology Service. Our team specialises in a whole‑child approach to audiological care, delivering services in community settings across a large geographical area of Lancashire. Our Consultant Audiovestibular Physician leads clinical work and contributes to national APD research, giving you opportunities to develop specialist clinical skills.
We are a small, friendly, but busy multidisciplinary team who fully embrace our Trust vision of Excellent Care with Compassion. We welcome applications from newly qualified audiologists as well as those wishing to develop specialist paediatric skills.
Main duties of the job
You will assist in the delivery of a high quality Paediatric Audiology Service aimed at maintaining national standards for clinical and professional excellence. The post holder will perform a broad range of complex and non-routine tasks to assist the diagnosis and habilitation of hearing and balance disorders in babies, children and young adults. You will be expected to work with indirect supervision and use your initiative at all times.
In addition to having a BSc (Hons) or equivalent in Audiology and professional registration with an appropriate body (AHCS Registration), we also welcome applications from individuals due to graduate this summer. Detailed job description and main responsibilities
As a Band 5 Paediatric Audiologist, you will:
8. Assist the Consultant Audiological Physician and senior grades of staff in tertiary level evaluation of hearing disorders in young adults, children and babies.
9. Undertake a range of comprehensive hearing assessments on children and babies including those with challenging behaviour such as with syndromes, developmental delay, learning or communication difficulties and physical impairments using investigative and analytical skills.
10. Perform under indirect supervision otoscopy and a range of comprehensive hearing assessments on older children as part of the second tier assessment service.
11. Contribute to the production of individualised (re)habilitative programmes for hearing impaired babies, children and young adults including those with challenging behaviour.
12. Contribute to the evaluation of audiological treatment programmes, address the necessary changes needed for children’s and babies on-going aural (re)habilitation and report outcomes to a multidisciplinary team.
13. Select, fit, verify and evaluate NHS digital hearing aids with appropriate follow‑up, outcome measures and repairs.
14. Provide a hearing aid technical support/repair service for all hearing aided children.
15. Perform ear impressions on young adults and children with direct or indirect supervision as required.
16. Assist with the administrative aspects of the in-house and peripheral Ear Mould Service
17. Assist in the review and up-date of working practices, admin and clerical procedures in line with NDCS, NHSP and MCHAS guidelines.
18. Assist with the introduction of any new Audiological equipment, technique or working practice and assist with training where necessary. Support supervision and competency assessments of Audiology students
19. Perform routine maintenance/calibration checks on audiological equipment; report faults and arrange repairs.
20. Assist with the administrative aspects of the hearing aid service including record keeping, maintenance and ordering of stock.
21. Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of Health and Education professionals to promote the continued implementation of a modernised service as recognised by National Bodies (ie MCHAS, NDCS, NHSP, BSA, BAA).
22. Provide information to service users and carers on local resources available.
23. Liaise with departmental admin/clerical staff to ensure an efficient and effective day-to-day service.
24. Problem solve or defer as necessary all hearing aid queries that arise from children, parents, carers and other members of the multidisciplinary team including situations with potential conflict.
25. Maintain comprehensive and accurate electronic records of assessment and treatment in line with legal and departmental policy and communicate results to appropriate disciplines in the form of letters and reports
26. Collect data and statistics as directed by the Consultant Audiological Physician and Paediatric Audiology Service Manager.
27. To take part in the annual performance review in accordance with Trust policy.
28. To undertake mandatory training in accordance with trust policy.
29. Participate in departmental meetings, research/audit activities and service development.
30. Report all feedback from service users and professionals to the Paediatric Audiology Service Manager.
31. Maintain AHCS registration and meet CPD requirements
