Job description
Flexible Working: This role is primarily office-based, with most work undertaken in the office and a small proportion outside. We offer flexible hours, including compressed and part-time shifts. Working from home isn't guaranteed, but possible occasionally based on needs. Once fully trained, you may be required to join an on-call rota.

The Role
As an Infrastructure Engineer, you'll join a friendly, skilled team dedicated to developing end-to-end solutions that optimise our systems and support our mission. You'll be assigned a specialism based on your suitability, either at recruitment or following an in-role assessment. Specialisms include:
1. Tailored Acquisitions
2. Platform Engineers
3. Network Engineers
4. DevOps Engineers
5. Web Technology SMEs
In your role, you might develop solutions for existing and future infrastructure or create innovative approaches to operational challenges. You will have influence and impact, troubleshooting infrastructure issues, supporting operational tasks, and gaining exposure to unique technology to grow your confidence and skills.
This role involves collaboration within teams and with various customers, analysts, and the wider technical community to develop customer-driven infrastructure, meet requirements, and enable our mission's success.
About You
If you're passionate about IT and technology, thrive in vibrant environments, and love learning, this opportunity is for you! You only need one qualification: GCSE grade 4/C or above, or an equivalent Level 2 in Maths. No other specific qualifications or deep technical background are required. A background in STEM, experience in small companies, or a passion for IT is beneficial. Enthusiasm, motivation, and eagerness to learn are key.
You should be organized, adaptable, able to prioritize, analyze problems, and communicate solutions clearly. Passion for learning and collaboration is essential, regardless of your career stage.
Training and Development
You'll be assigned a buddy and mentor, engaging in formal and on-the-job training, with early ownership of tasks. You'll rotate through three areas of our large team, spending 6 months in each, to gain comprehensive experience. After 18 months, you'll be placed in the team best suited to your skills. Note: the rotation and training are specific to our Samlesbury location; Manchester has its own program.
Depending on your specialism, you'll develop skills in:
* Technical risk management
* Operational security
* Domain services (Windows/Linux)
* Operating system administration and security
* Web technologies (Tor/VPNs/Proxies/CDNs/Cloud)
* Scripting languages (Python/PowerShell/Bash)
* Virtualisation technologies (vSphere, Hyper-V)
* Networking (Cisco, Juniper, NSX)
* Automation Tooling (Terraform/Ansible/Docker)
* Monitoring and analysis (ELK, Splunk)
* Storage (3PAR & Primera)
