THE ROLE
He-Man Dual Controls Ltd is looking to appoint a proactive and skilled Design Engineer to support our engineering team in the development and production of dual-control systems for a wide range of vehicles.
The successful candidate will work closely with the R&D, production, and quality teams to deliver robust, cost-effective designs and support ongoing product improvements within an ISO9001 framework.
Responsibilities
* · Develop and adapt mechanical designs for dual-control systems using CAD (Autodesk Inventor preferred).
* Produce accurate engineering drawings, BOMs, and supporting documentation for manufacture.
* Apply DFM/DFA principles to ensure efficient assembly and reliable operation.
* Assist in reverse-engineering new vehicle platforms using 3D scanning and measurement tools.
* Support product validation through prototyping, rig testing, and in-vehicle trials.
* Liaise with suppliers to resolve technical issues and ensure manufacturability.
* Provide technical support to production and aftersales teams.
* Contribute to continuous improvement activities across design and assembly processes.
* Ownership of the design phase from specification through drawing release, ERP system population and production.
* Ensuring quality in a product's design for usability, reliability, functionality and manufacturability.
* Applying design to cost and design for manufacturability methods to support company objectives.
* Contributing as a team member within the Engineering team, carrying out assigned responsibilities/sharing knowledge/identifying process improvements to improve department efficiency.
* Working collaboratively with interfacing team members in all aspects of work, including observing all Health and Safety measures.
KEY SKILLS REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION
Essential skills:
* Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or equivalent.
* Strong CAD skills (Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar).
* PDM/Vault/ERP data management
* Hand calculation methods and mechanical simulation (FEA)
* Experience producing manufacturing drawings and technical documentation.
* Knowledge of reverse engineering techniques, including 3D scanning (training provided if needed).
* Understanding of DFM/DFA and mechanical assembly principles.
* Hands-on approach to prototyping and testing.
* Problem-solving mindset, ideally with exposure to structured methods (e.g. FMEA, root cause analysis).
* Broad understanding of materials and surface treatments
* Technical report writing
* Good communication skills and ability to work in a small, fast-paced engineering team.
* Experience with jigs, fixtures, and low-to-medium volume mechanical assemblies preferred but not essential
* Working knowledge of automotive mechanical systems and IATF16949 and IMDS preferred but not essential
* Familiar with non-destructive test methods preferred but not essential

Hours of work
Monday – Thursday: 07:30 to 16:00, Friday: 07:30 to 15:00 (39 hrs per week)
