About this role
The MRI Lead Radiographer will be responsible for the operational and clinical management of the MRI service across the Brighton Diagnostic & Treatment Centre and satellite sites. Working closely with the Centre Manager and senior colleagues, the post holder will ensure the efficient use of resources through effective demand and capacity management, while maintaining the highest standards of patient care, safety and image quality. Acting as an autonomous practitioner, you will undertake and oversee a broad range of MRI examinations, independently assess and justify referrals, and apply advanced clinical judgement to deliver diagnostic imaging in line with professional, departmental and legal requirements. You will lead, support and develop the radiography team, contribute to training and education, manage daytoday workflow, and play a key role in service development, governance, and continuous improvement of the MRI service.
What are the key responsibilities of the role?
* To conduct a wide range of MRI scans upon a range of patient types, both as an autonomous practitioner and as part of a multi professional team, in a manner that meets professional, departmental and legal standards and requirements
* To independently assess and justify referrals following practitioner guidelines where appropriate
* Able to interpret Clinician's requirements, to determine the appropriate radiographic scan technique and ensure that it is performed in accordance with best practice and that the resultant images are diagnostic
* To use discretion to work outside of departmental standards when clinical circumstances necessitate i.e. undertaking additional or specialist techniques
* To undertake MRI scans in the absence of a radiologist according to agreed protocols
* To organise the day-to-day workload through the MRI services ensuring efficient use of all available resources.
* To act as an autonomous radiographer practitioner, meeting the standards set within the Health Professions Councils professional code of conduct
* To identify problems as they arise affecting patient throughput and taking appropriate measures to resolve them
* To liaise with Clinicians about requests for MRI
* To provide monthly and annual reports detailing service progress.
* To oversee the appointments to make best use of scanning time available
* To organise equipment service dates around the workload to keep any disruption to a minimum
Person Specifications
* BSc Diagnostic Radiography or DCR Equivalent.
* HCPC registration.
* Cannulation qualification.
* Significant post qualification experience in MRI.
* Experience in a management position in an operational or service management capacity.
* Experience of training and managing students
* Experience of dealing with challenging situations.
* Diverse experience of cross sectional imaging.
* Excellent team working, organisational and leadership skills
* Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to manage staff effectively
* Well-developed analytical skills and innovative problem solving abilities.
* Good I.T. skills
* Able to work under own initiative to a high level with responsibility and commitment
* Ability and enthusiasm to contribute to the departmental education programme and deliver presentations to multidisciplinary groups
* Excellent patient care.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Ability to network with other departments in the hospital and relate to all grades of staff and groups of patients.
* Possess mature judgement and decision-making skills and be highly reflective in thinking and outlook
* Understanding of Clinical Governance.
