We have a superb opportunity for a patient-centred fulltime Nurse Associate or healthcare support worker to join our Eye unit team. You’ll take responsibility for performing tasks and duties as delegated by the Registered Nurse(s) as you provide outstanding nursing interventions and care to all our patients. As our Nursing Associate, you will foster a culture of professionalism and a positive working environment whilst following the hospital’s guidelines and protocol.

You will need the appropriate qualifications and be registered on the NMC prior to applying. Please note this is a fixed term contract until August 2026

About the role

Nursing Associate

* Your role purpose will be to plan and implement high standards of care, following our hospital’s guidelines and protocol, promoting a patient-focused approach to care.
* You will play an integral part in the planning and implementing of outstanding patient care whilst acting as the patient’s advocate and maintaining their dignity at all times. You will take responsibility for ensuring that the care areas are safe, fit for purpose and effectively managed
* Vital is the delivery of high standards of evidence-based care as is the maintenance of safe custody of all medications and controlled drugs.
* You will assist with the post-operative care of patients where data should be accurately recorded on APAS and Endobase and other written notes. Furthermore, you will contribute to budgetary management and ward audits within the ward and the compilation of supporting written documentation.
* Excellent interpersonal skills will be required to supervise junior members of the team and to mentor them to achieve their workplace competencies.

Healthcare Support Worker

* Undertake delegated clinical tasks within the ward environment.
* Assist patients with all elements of patients’ needs including personal care needs
* Accurately update patient information on IT systems
* Ensure patient care areas are effectively maintained and well stocked.
* Follow standard operating policies and procedures


Skills and experience required

Nursing Associate

* A Nursing Associate foundation
* ILS training or a willingness to undertake training
* Phlebotomy and ECG monitoring experience
* Catheter and wound care
* Evidence of continued development/revalidation
* Sound organisational planning and problem-solving skills
* Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills to build and support team working in a positive and challenging culture
* Competent Computer skills

Healthcare Support Worker

* GCSEs or equivalent experience.
* NVQ Level III in Health & Social Care, Care Certificate, or willingness to undertake.
* Basic Life Support training.
* Clinical skills such as phlebotomy, catheter care, ECGs, and dressing changes (or willingness to train).
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* A caring, adaptable, and patient-centred approach.
* Good IT skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to work under pressure and as part of a team.
