Carmel Medical Practice is currently recruiting for a Salaried General Medical Practitioner to help deliver our vision of high-quality medical services at our well-established, progressive, and friendly practice team in Darlington.

We offer a flexible approach to the division of roles and responsibilities within our small, friendly, and experienced practice team. The clinical teams are well supported by an excellent administration and management team, allowing our GPs to focus on clinical work.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced GP eager to take a leading role in improving patient outcomes and contributing to local service redesign by representing the practice at PCN level.

Main duties of the job

1. Provide a range of medical services as defined in the core contract, including additional and enhanced services where appropriate.
2. Make professional, autonomous decisions regarding presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other healthcare professionals within the organisation.
3. Assess healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
4. Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
5. Develop care plans for health in consultation with patients, in line with current practices; disease management protocols; provide counselling and health education.
6. Work within local prescribing policies.
7. Be available and accessible to patients.
8. Maximise effective use of current clinical computer systems, record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes, and compile and issue computer-generated prescriptions.
9. Support the training of GPs and nursing students within the practice.
10. Provide free certification in line with Schedule 9 of the GMS regulations (1992).
11. Provide emergency cover if needed.


About us

Carmel Medical Practice serves a patient population of 11,640 in a modern, purpose-built building. Our team includes 4 GP Partners, 1 Salaried GP, 2 Nurse Practitioners, and an experienced, diverse allied healthcare team. The practice is also a GP Training Practice.

* In-house Pharmacist team, including a Clinical Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician
* Respiratory and Diabetes specialist nurses
* Strong clinical and administrative support
* Uses System One clinical system
* GMS contract


Job responsibilities

1. Develop primary care services to meet the needs of the practice population.
2. Work closely with the practice team to ensure access targets are met.
3. Ensure immunisation and health inequalities targets are achieved.
4. Support health development and promote health education to empower informed patient choices.
5. Represent the practice at relevant meetings, e.g., Practice-Based Commissioning Groups.
6. Maintain awareness of and compliance with all relevant policies and procedures, including prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety, and infection control.
7. Engage in lifelong learning and audit to ensure evidence-based practice.
8. Contribute to audit processes and the setting of clinical standards within the organisation.
9. Assist in the development of computer-based records and contribute to read-coding patient data.


Person Specification


Experience

* Full GMC registration, inclusion on the NHS England Performers List, and eligibility to work in the UK.
* Experience working in UK General Practice environment.
* Experience in primary care.


Qualifications

* Registered with the GMC and listed on the GMC GP Register with evidence of revalidation.
* Accepted Medical Degree.
* Interest in long-term condition care.
* Willingness to train or supervise students and progressing clinical staff.


Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, requiring a DBS check for any previous criminal convictions.

Depending on experience, the position involves 4 to 6 sessions per week, with pay rate to be discussed based on experience.
