This is a replacement, full-time Specialty Doctor post.

The successful applicant must have extensive experience in general ophthalmology, primary care, and emergency ophthalmology. Previous experience in medical retina care is also essential.

There is no on-call commitment.

Job plans will have a degree of flexibility to match candidates' skills, experience, and clinical interests, and to accommodate personal commitments where appropriate. All 10 PA job plans will include:

1. 1 SPA/revalidation session
2. An admin session on alternating weeks
3. 1 emergency clinic session
4. 6 outpatient clinics, including 3 or more treatment clinics (Retinal or Macular Laser / Intravitreal injection)

For those considering application for a Certificate of Eligibility for the Specialist Register (CESR), there may be opportunities to gain relevant experience through additional sessions, subject to agreement at appraisal/revalidation. These will not be included in the initial job plan.

The Specialty Doctor will:

1. Provide ophthalmology services across King's sites, including treatment and management duties.
2. Support sub-specialty services for the Queen Mary's catchment area.
3. Work under supervision of a Consultant Ophthalmologist, seeing, treating, and discharging patients per protocols and guidelines.
4. Manage emergency eye conditions in the Rapid Access (Emergency Referral) Unit with the Senior Doctor and Nurse Practitioners.
5. Contribute to departmental research and audit activities.
6. Perform all duties within the contracted service levels and operational plans.
7. Adhere to hygiene, infection control, and safety standards, including annual training.
8. Implement the Code of Practice within their area.
9. Prepare for and undertake protective interventions following evidence-based practices to ensure patient safety.
10. Maintain health, safety, and well-being of themselves, colleagues, visitors, and patients, including risk management and clinical governance.
11. Follow Trust policies, procedures, standards, and statutory and professional obligations.
12. Maintain confidentiality of patient and staff information.
13. Engage in personal development and support colleagues' development.
14. Contribute to infection control standards, adhering to national and local policies.
15. Possess an 'nhs.net' email account for official communication, checked regularly.
16. This job description is a general guide and may evolve over time, subject to review in consultation with the post holder.

The post and job plan will be reviewed annually as part of the Trust's performance management.
