Overview

Maintenance Assistant at Serco

Location: Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Larbert, FK5 4EB

Employment: Full Time, Permanent (37 hours per week)

Salary: £28,011.00 - £30,230.00 per annum depending on experience plus basic Serco benefits.

Role summary: The Maintenance Assistant shall undertake routine semi-skilled planned preventative maintenance, fault finding and breakdown tasks under the guidance of the Maintenance Officer and technicians, providing backup for craftsmen on all aspects of hospital plant and equipment that does not justify attention of a fully qualified tradesman.


Responsibilities

* Work in accordance with Health Technical Memorandums (HTMs), SHTMs and other applicable legislation under the guidance of supervisors, technicians and craftsmen.
* Follow departmental policy and procedure; comply with infection control and decontamination policies.
* Notify the Maintenance Officer of any deviations or plant/equipment failures.
* Operate flexibly as part of the Estates team; perform planned preventive maintenance and reactive repairs largely unsupervised where appropriate.
* Maintain accurate records on service sheets, work orders and electronic devices; log readings and carry out basic adjustments and repairs.
* Undertake semi-skilled electrical, mechanical, building and grounds PPM tasks and repairs (e.g., fire alarm testing, lamp replacement, boiler checks, cleaning, drains, drainage, etc.).
* Assist with ductwork cleaning, filter changes, lamp/tube replacement, cleaning plant rooms, plenums and electrical sub-stations; assist with safety checks and reporting.
* Provide cover for staff sickness, annual leave and vacancies; participate in rotating shifts as required.
* Act as safety lead for other staff as required; adhere to permit to work systems and risk assessments.
* Maintain tools, equipment and materials safely; ensure information on works is communicated to staff and management.
* Attend training as required and contribute to continuous improvement within the Estates department.


What You’ll Need To Do The Role

* Understanding of customer care and experience of managing client relationships, preferably including time within a healthcare environment.
* Knowledge of safe use of equipment; good interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to use own initiative, problem solve, work well in a team and develop skills and knowledge.
* Minimum of 1 year experience in a similar role within a large complex service organisation.
* Accuracy and attention to detail; IT skills; ability to meet tight deadlines.
* Willingness to undertake training and duties appropriate to the grade; health and safety awareness; site orientation and corporate induction; customer care and fire safety.
* Possession of a current driving licence.
* Flexible attitude to working hours; participation in shift/on-call roster if applicable.
