PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
As a Senior Journalist on the Weekend Planning and Commissioning team, you will commission, edit and approve digital content, chiefly in text – features, analysis, news stories - but also video
* This is a 4-day, 10-hour shift pattern, working alternate weekends, based in Salford
WHY JOIN THE TEAM
Based in Salford you will be part of the small, busy and supportive Weekend Planning and Commissioning team. You will work closely with correspondents and producers from across the BBC to deliver their high profile, agenda-setting features and news stories for weekend audiences on the news website.
Your Key Responsibilities And Impact
* Commission, edit, produce, and sign off fresh, engaging, stand-out weekend news, analysis and feature content
* Work closely with correspondents and other writers to generate ideas and identify stories and angles that will attract and engage readers, particularly those from audiences the BBC website does not typically reach
* Collaborate with other specialist teams including video, visual journalism, data, stills and formats, to deliver stories produced to the highest standards
* Edit and produce a wide range of content, at speed, with accuracy and attention to detail
* Provide clear and meticulous plans for digital coverage of set-piece events - including for live and social
Your Skills And Experience
Essential Criteria
* Excellent editorial judgement with significant experience commissioning and editing text news and features in English for digital platforms
* A track record of delivering creative insightful, high-quality journalism to digital audiences
* Experience and understanding of the requirements, formats and tools needed to generate a digital plan for news events
* Substantial experience of heavy editing and subbing text, to tight deadlines, with attention to accuracy, context and tone
* A thorough appreciation of mobile storytelling principles and how they inform the commissioning process, and demonstrable experience of using social media, search and audience data to reach new audiences and broaden coverage
