An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a well-established Stroke nursing team. As a deputy ward manager / charge nurse, you will be responsible for essential day-to-day nurse in charge responsibilities and ensuring the smooth running of the shift in the absence of the ward manager. Managing a team of staff, ensuring staffing levels are safe, escalating concerns, and carrying out essential audits will be part of your daily duties. You will handle incidents, complaints, and manage a small team of staff.

We seek a highly motivated individual with enthusiasm and drive to join our experienced and diverse MDT. A hands-on approach is vital to meet our patients' needs. Good time management and communication skills are essential for this role. The position also involves being a Stroke bleep holder, attending calls to assess patients in the acute phase of their Stroke, and administering Tenectaplase to patients who meet the Thrombolysis criteria. Full training and support from our Stroke Specialist nurses will be provided.

The role is diverse and variable daily. Ability to multitask and think quickly to adapt to different situations is crucial. If you have the skills to work as part of a large MDT, we would love to hear from you.

As a band 6, you will have junior management responsibilities. Support from the ward manager, along with training in managing a small team, will be provided. Responsibilities include appraisals, rota management, sickness management, and dealing with complaints, alongside being a Stroke bleep holder. You should have the relevant clinical skills and competencies at this level. Mentoring student nurses is also an important part of the role. Effective prioritization, delegation, and communication are key. You will participate in daily ward rounds led by consultants and attend weekly MDT meetings, escalating patient care to improve flow and discharge planning.

At UHSussex, diversity is our strength. We are committed to inclusion and putting patients first. Your unique experiences contribute to our innovative community, supported by Staff Networks, buddy systems, and initiatives like being a Disability Confident Employer (Level 2) and a Veteran Aware Trust.

We treat patients and staff with compassion and empathy. Our extensive Wellbeing Programme supports staff, including flexible working options to promote work-life balance. As a university trust and healthcare research leader, we value learning, teaching, and training, supporting your growth throughout your career. Choosing UHSussex means a long, fulfilling career where your contributions are valued.

We look forward to your application and to welcoming you to UHSussex.
