Position Overview
PerkinElmer is seeking a Scientific Equipment Coordinator to join our team at a client site in Macclesfield. This role is integral to the support of laboratory operations, focusing on the coordination of equipment repairs, preventive maintenance, and overall asset life-cycle management. The successful candidate will work closely with the Laboratory Instrument Support Team and scientific community to ensure equipment is maintained in a compliant, operational, and efficient state, while delivering on key support for our client team’s continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the primary point of contact for laboratory equipment service coordination, ensuring alignment with PerkinElmer and client procedures.
* Schedule and coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance using internal and external engineering resources.
* Provide clear, proactive communication to scientific users regarding equipment availability and service status, maintaining regulatory compliance.
* Support first-line troubleshooting for laboratory equipment and escalate issues to appropriate suppliers or service providers as necessary.
* Ensure necessary parts, documentation, and materials are available prior to scheduled maintenance or repair activities to avoid delays.
* Accurately input and maintain equipment data and service records in client asset and compliance databases, ensuring data integrity and traceability.
* Adhere to and promote Health and Safety policies and practices of both PerkinElmer and the client.
* Identify and escalate opportunities for continuous improvement, including sustainability initiatives.
* Collaborate cross-functionally with on-site teams and support colleagues across departments where required.
* Contribute to 5S workplace organisation and consumables standardization in laboratory environments.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
* Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a pharmaceutical or similarly regulated environment.
* Demonstrated experience working within or supporting a scientific customer group.
* Self-starter with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team,
* Strong initiative, anticipating and adapting to the changing needs of the client.
* Excellent ability in task management, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Desirable:
* Previous experience as an Equipment or Maintenance Coordinator in a GMP or regulated environment
* Practical experience with laboratory equipment setup and basic asset troubleshooting.
* Familiarity with equipment maintenance or asset lifecycle management systems.
* Knowledge and experience with 5S principles and laboratory organisation.
Working Environment:
* This is a site-based role within a customer laboratory setting.
* Requires wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including lab coat and safety glasses.
* Must be able to remain stationary for extended periods (over 25% of the time).
* Regular movement between labs, corridors, and adjacent buildings required.
* Physical activities may include bending, squatting, stretching, and reaching around equipment and instruments.
* May require medical clearance, respirator training, and fit testing due to environmental safety requirements.
