About the job you're considering
The Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Technical Lead is a senior, client–embedded technical leadership role and the single point of technical authority for Site Reliability Engineering across assigned platforms or engagements. The role is accountable for the reliability, availability, and operability of services delivered by one or more teams and vendors in complex, multi‑vendor environments.
This role combines strategic reliability leadership with hands‑on engineering authority. It is distinct from operations management or Principal Engineer roles, owning technical reliability outcomes including release readiness, platform stability, and stakeholder confidence.
Hybrid working
The places that you work from day to day will vary according to your role, your needs, and those of the business; it will be a blend of Company offices, client sites, and your home.
Your role
As the SRE Technical Lead, you are the technical authority for SRE practices across all vendors and solution trains, working closely with client stakeholders, Capgemini leadership, and delivery partners.
You operate without formal line management, providing technical leadership through influence, and work closely with Principal SREs, Cloud Technical Leads, Platform, Security, and Operations teams.
Responsibilities
* Define and enforce SRE strategy, standards, SLAs, SLOs, and error budgets, embedding reliability into service and platform design from the outset.
* Lead the implementation of core SRE practices, including reliability reviews, toil reduction, and operational readiness.
* Drive automation across monitoring, incident response, recovery, and remediation, governing reliability‑related IaC, CI/CD, and operational tooling.
* Identify and eliminate systemic causes of operational load, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and operable.
* Act as the technical escalation point for major incidents and high‑risk releases, protecting service stability and ensuring blameless post‑incident reviews lead to measurable improvement.
* Define and govern observability and capacity practices so reliability risks are visible, actionable, and proactively managed.
* Ensure SRE practices align with service governance, security, and compliance requirements, and contribute to service reviews, release governance, and longer‑term planning.
* Coach and mentor Senior SREs and engineers, raising the overall maturity and consistency of reliability engineering across the organisation.
Your skills and experience
* Deep technical expertise and credibility in large‑scale environments.
* Strong expertise in Kubernetes and OpenShift.
* Experience with multi‑cloud and hybrid architectures, including service mesh (e.g., Istio).
* Hands‑on experience with observability platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Tempo, and OpenTelemetry.
* Strong Infrastructure as Code and GitOps experience (Helm, Kustomize, ArgoCD, Tekton).
* Experience with CI/CD automation and reliability‑focused engineering.
* Familiarity with Red Hat ACM/ACS, Submariner networking, and enterprise databases (e.g., Postgres).
* Proven ability to lead, influence, and mentor across multi‑vendor delivery environments.
