Control Systems Engineer - mechatronics
Staffordshire, UK
£45 - 55k + benefits
This role would probably suit an engineer with at least 3-5 years of industry experience. Alignment to mechatronics, control and electromechanical systems (e.g. hydraulics, machinery, electric motors) is preferred.
The role will involve full lifecycle (V model) systems engineering activities including the capture and development of customer requirements into functional requirements and specifications, systems integration activities and the development of test and validation requirements in conjunction with development and test teams.
You will be working to develop subsystems and new product features for off-highway vehicles / machinery (mechatronics, control and electromechanical systems - hydraulics, machine control and safety systems, electric motors)
Key experience required: Control Systems Engineer
* Systems design – mechatronic control, electromechanical systems, etc
* Safety analysis and FMEA
* Ability to develop and produce software requirements
* Able to develop test and validation requirements (DVP)
* A background in design / development or systems engineering would be preferred (e.g. electronics, software, mechatronics, control etc) ideally gained within the off-highway machinery, machinery, mechatronics, special vehicles, military vehicles or similar industry.
NOTE - Breadth of experience is more important than specialism.
Required experience / knowledge: Control Systems Engineer
* 3-5+ years of post-academic experience gained within the off-highway machinery, special vehicles, military vehicles or similar (ideally involving mechatronic / control systems).
* A degree in a relevant field (e.g. electronics, computer science, mechatronics, automotive engineering)
* Systems architecture definition – electromechanical systems, control engineering, etc
* Safety analysis and FMEA
* Ability to develop and produce detailed software requirements (use of Matlab / Simulink)
* Able to develop test and validation requirements
* Product development experience and ability having spent time on the design, development or test of complex electromechanical systems (e.g. off highway machinery, agricultural / construction machinery)
* Experience of systems design, the systems engineering cycle (V model) and capturing requirements from customers.
* Good practical engineering aptitude (e.g. software or hardware integration, hands-on problem solving, development of systems in a lab / workshop)
* Formal training within systems engineering would be useful
* Strong organisational, communication and creative problem solving skills
The role will be hands-on including practical integration activities (hardware / software) to ensure product features and systems meet product requirements. This will require engineering design / development knowledge but an appreciation for the greater system and the will to roll your sleeves up and get involved with the physical development of prototypes.
The company designs and manufacturers a range of vehicles and machinery for the construction and agricultural industry. These machines include electric vehicle technologies as well as conventional powertrains, hybrid and hydrogen engines. In addition, some of the products include autonomous systems, collision avoidance / ADAS systems, hydraulic control, etc. In short you can be exposed to a variety of technologies.
This control systems / mechatronics design engineer role is based onsite and is commutable from Rocester, Stoke on Trent, Derby, Nottingham, Birmingham, Uttoxeter, Stafford, and Burton
