Senior Control & Instrumentation Engineer
Contract - Outside of scope of IR35
Location: Manchester (with occasional site or client visits)
Hybrif - 2 days pwe week in office
Duration: 12 months
We’re supporting the delivery of a growing portfolio of projects across the energy sector and are looking for an experienced Senior C&I Engineer to provide expert engineering input across concept, FEED, and EPCm phases.
You’ll join a collaborative, multi-discipline environment, supporting major clients across Oil & Gas, Hydrogen, and emerging low-carbon sectors—with further opportunities across Nuclear, Defence, and Transport.
The Role
1. Provide technical leadership for C&I engineering across projects, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery
2. Prepare, review, and approve key documentation, including equipment specifications, scopes of work, and requisitions for instrumentation, safety systems, and control systems
3. Carry out supplier reviews, technical bid evaluations, and support procurement decisions
4. Ensure compliance with national and international standards, including ATEX, PED, LVD, and EMC directives
5. Contribute to full lifecycle C&I development including protection systems, PLCs, and SMART device qualification
6. Undertake tasks related to functional safety and ageing/obsolescence management where required
7. Engage with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders to align on design expectations and risk management
8. Promote safety, reliability, and compliance at every stage of the engineering lifecycle
What You’ll Bring
9. Degree in Electronic, Electrical, or Control Engineering; relevant apprenticeships considered
10. Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or actively working towards it)
11. 5+ years of experience in the Oil & Gas, Hydrogen, Nuclear, or Water sectors
12. Strong working knowledge of UK legislation, CE marking, and equipment installation in hazardous areas
13. Familiarity with HSE risk identification, management, and functional safety principles
14. Technically confident with excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
15. Motivated, delivery-focused, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
