Research Nurse - Respiratory and Cardiovascular Studies

We are looking for a self-motivated, hardworking individual with a passion for research to join our dynamic team.

The role will be based within the Division of Experimental Medicine and Immunotherapeutics (EMIT), Department of Medicine, based on Level 6, Addenbrooke's Centre for Clinical Investigation.

You will be responsible for the provision of high quality, patient focused NIHS Portfolio Clinical research studies, investigating respiratory and cardiovascular studies.You will need to able to work independently and as part of a team, have good communication skills to provide specialist advice and support to and liaising with other staff members and organisation.Informal visits to the unit are welcomed.


Main duties of the job

To predominantly help to recruit and deliver to NIHR respiratory studies.

To undertake the day-to-day responsibility for identifying eligible clinical research participants.

To run projects and undertake research assessments.

To provide information and support to patients/participants, undertake study recruitment and consent, co-ordination of study treatment/ interventions, asses, develop and implement specialist nursing care and data collection according to study protocols in accordance with ICH Good Clinical Practice, EU Clinical Trials legislation and the NHS research governance framework

To participate in patient and public involvement and engagement activities, as required, and be responsible for providing specialist advice and support to, and liaising with other staff members and organisations.

Job responsibilities

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Evidence of continuous professional development
* Post registration qualification in speciality or willingness to complete
* Degree
* Research Module
* Certificate in Clinical Research


Experience

* Relevant clinical experience at Band 5 or above
* Experience of formal/informal teaching
* Supervision of junior staff
* Experience of working within multi-disciplinary teams
* Experience of working in a clinical research environment e.g. Clinical Trials, participant recruitment and interviewing
* Experience of co-ordinating REC and HRA submissions


Knowledge

* Knowledge of clinical research infrastructure in the UK and of research related legislation & regulation.
* Understand the structure, role & functions of RECs and R&D departments
* Understanding of the requirements of ICH Good
* Clinical Practice; possess current GCP Certificate
* Knowledge of the role of the clinical research nurse; understanding the issues/process of gaining informed consent.
* Basic knowledge of research method
* Capable of writing reports and of presenting research related information to a wide audience
* Competent in research/database PC packages
* Awareness of Trust/National strategies/initiatives in NIHR/R&D
* IT Packages


Skills

* Good verbal and written communication skills
* Capable of working as an integral member of a small team
* Adaptable to changing situations due to both workload and colleagues needs
* Ability to undertake teaching of staff and patients
* Ability to work unsupervised and manage own workload; effective time management.
* Effective interpersonal skills
* Commitment to multidisciplinary working.
* Able to support participants through the informed consent process
* Ability to lead, motivate and develop junior staff
* Good organisational, time & project management skills: and able to plan, prioritise & co-ordinate work under pressure
* Have proven administrative skills with good attention to detail and also be numerate with good IT skills; competent in standard PC packages (Windows, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access)
* Assertiveness/perceptive counselling skills
* Relevant clinical skills e.g. Haemodynamic monitoring, ECG.
* Obtaining skills through training and supervision in arterial cannulation may be required.

* Capable of developing liaisons with other practice areas/academic institutions.
