Job summary
Are you an experienced Radiographer with a passion for breast imaging? Join our vibrant, forward-thinking team at Peterborough City Hospital! This is a part-time role, offering 28.5 hours per week.
As a Consultant Radiographer Specialist in Breast Imaging, you'll play a key role in delivering high-level, autonomous clinical care, working at a level equivalent to Consultant Radiologists. Your responsibilities will include interpreting and reporting mammographic and ultrasound images of the breast and axilla, as well as performing vital procedures such as lesion localisations, needle core biopsies, and vacuum-assisted procedures under stereotactic and ultrasound guidance.
Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring adherence to the quality standards of the National Health Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP).

Main duties of the job
Clinical Expertise: Provide a comprehensive, responsive breast imaging diagnostic service, including the interpretation and reporting of mammographic and ultrasound images, diagnosing conditions, and recommending appropriate next steps.
Invasive Procedures: Perform key procedures, such as breast lesion localisation, needle core biopsies, and vacuum-assisted procedures under both stereotactic and ultrasound guidance.
Clinical Leadership: Lead the breast imaging team, ensuring adherence to national standards while delivering exceptional patient care.
Audit & Governance: Conduct clinical audits and quality assurance activities to maintain compliance with NHSBSP quality standards.
Training & Mentorship: Mentor and guide a team of Consultant Radiographers, Advanced Practitioners, and other staff, fostering their professional development and enhancing clinical skills.
Service Development: Drive department advancements to meet growing service demands and incorporate new imaging techniques into practice.
Research & Innovation: Leverage clinical research to expand the scope of practice, bringing new innovations to the service and improving patient outcomes.
Multi-disciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with professionals across specialties to enhance patient outcomes and work with the Imaging Services Manager and Breast Imaging Professional Lead to design and implement training and succession planning strategies.

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
* Diploma of the college of radiographers (DCR) or Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic radiography
* Masters level qualification to include: Mammography Image, Interpretation and Reporting, Breast Clinical Examination, Communication skills, Breast Ultrasound, Breast interventional Techniques and Advanced Practice, Research Methods, MRI Breast Reporting
* HCPC or other relevant professional registration
Experience
* Highly developed specialist knowledge within breast imaging with advanced practitioner experience - minimum of 5 years
* Leadership experience and service development achievement within a breast imaging department
* Experience of facilitating MDTs
Key Skills
* Ability to communicate and relate information concisely to Clinicians and other Health Professionals
* Evidence of advanced clinical skills, and excellent written and presentations skills.
* Ability to manage self and exhibit self-awareness and drive for improvement
* Effective influencing and enabling skills
Knowledge
* Sound working knowledge across breast imaging including specialist knowledge in advanced practice examinations
* Sound knowledge of patient pathways and referral criteria including NHSBSP & NBSS
* Working knowledge of national and international guidelines relating to specific examinations
* Awareness of NHS agenda at national and local level
