Overview
Senior Electrical Engineer role with the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team. Requires knowledge of high, medium, low and extra-low voltage electrical systems and equipment; expertise in control systems design and SCADA/telemetry is beneficial. The role supports the Standards, Asset Management and Engineering Directorate to deliver safe, reliable and sustainable assets and contribute to net zero commitments.
Responsibilities
* Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules, for electrical systems and equipment (HV and LV power systems and control systems) within assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures and monitoring sites.
* Develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for all employees managing or carrying out work on electrical systems and equipment.
* Hold a national incident response role which may be within normal working hours or out of hours.
* Be part of the MEICA Engineering Standards team, providing technical standards, management and leadership across mechanical, electrical and control system activities.
Experience / Skills Required
* A good working knowledge of Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* Knowledge of control systems, including the application of IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry/SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Knowledge and experience in the development and delivery of Safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements.
* Testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
* Strong understanding of a risk-based approach to electrical maintenance philosophies and implementation, including Failure Mode Effects Analysis and reliability processes.
* Drafting and publishing electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, team working and communication skills.

Licensing and Professional Membership
UK Driving licence. Must have current membership of a recognised engineering institution and be Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council, or provide evidence of working toward registration with a realistic prospect of registration within 12 months.
