Scrub Practitioner

County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for the position of Theatre Practitioner for Anaesthetics and Recovery at the Bishop Auckland Hospital Surgical Hub.

We are a growing dynamic hub delivering high quality orthopaedic, general, gynaecology, plastic, and dental surgery.

These posts are non rotational.


Main duties of the job

* Participate in monitoring of standards of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.
* Participate in direct care needs of patients, providing expert knowledge of all clinical specialities and acting as a role model.
* Participate in audit and monitoring accurate documentation in accordance with Trust policy, NMC and HPC guidelines.
* Be competent in facilitating an emergency service covering all specialties provided within the department, during elective and non elective periods.
* Ensure the safe administration of drugs in accordance with Trust Policy, and NMC and HPC guidelines.
* Ensure that all procedures and techniques are carried out in accordance with local competencies and agreed policies and standards.
* Ensure rights, dignity and confidentiality of the patient are protected at all times.
* Act as patients advocate in all matters relating to his/her care, treatment and welfare.
* Checking on departmental cleanliness and where necessary assisting other members of the team in the preparation, clearing and cleaning of the operating suite and equipment before, during and after operating.


About us

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

You must be able to produce ALL certificates stated essential in the person specification or you will not be able to complete pre-employment checks.


Job responsibilities

To provide patient care within the perioperative environment and act as a skilled member of the multidisciplinary team.

To assess care needs, develop programmes of care and implement and evaluate these programmes of care, carrying out all relevant forms of peri-operative patient care without direct supervision over a 24 hour period, caring for both adult and paediatric patients undergoing routine and emergency surgery.

The post carries a regular commitment to rotational night duty and out-of-hours work, however this is not a requirement for individuals starting on a training programme.

To provide perioperative care within the theatre environment, across the range of specialities offered by the Trust.

The care to be delivered inline with both local and national policies, procedures and guidelines.

Statutory Registration

* Registered with NMC or HCPC


Experience

* Existing experience as a scrub practitioner.


Qualifications

* Registered Nurse / Operating Department Practitioner. Scrub experience
* Experience as a Registered Nurse / ODP within the Operating Theatre. Teaching and assessing qualification or willingness to work towards. Diploma or degree or willingness to work towards or relevant practical experience within the department specialities.


Special Skills & Knowledge

* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Computer skills. Specific skills relevant to area of practice. Recruitment and selection skills
