Overview
We are offering 6 month fixed term secondment opportunities for innovative, ambitious and dedicated pharmacists to join the Medicine Pharmacy Service in NHS Fife. Following a successful bid, funding has been made available to optimise the service we provide to Neurology and Ophthalmology and contribute to the reduction in patient waiting times. The role involves assisting in the management and review of patients, ideally working as an independent prescriber with a defined patient case-load in the outpatient setting, to maximise the pharmaceutical input into patient care.
You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, appropriate and clinically effective use of medicines. This includes communicating highly complex information relating to medicines with clinicians, nurses, non-medical prescribers, carers and patients, as well as implementing and monitoring clinical pathways for treatments in line with national guidance. You will contribute to clinical governance, education and training, medicine efficiencies, clinical risk and audit. There may also be opportunities for additional hours within the medical specialties pharmacy team for those interested.
The NHS Fife Pharmacy and Medicines Directorate has undergone an ambitious programme of transformation and integration, serving a population of approximately 380,000 people and an integrated team of around 300 Pharmacy staff across Hospital Sites, General Practices, Mental Health services and specialist teams. Partnership working is a core value, and we work closely with Community Pharmacy colleagues to deliver high quality care.
Responsibilities
* Assist in the management and review of patients in Neurology and Ophthalmology outpatient settings.
* Work as an independent prescriber with a defined patient caseload where applicable.
* Communicate complex information about medicines to clinicians, nurses, prescribers, carers and patients.
* Implement and monitor clinical pathways for treatments in line with national guidance.
* Contribute to clinical governance, education and training, medicine efficiencies, clinical risk and audit.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and support ongoing service development and transformation.
* May include additional hours within the medical specialties pharmacy team.
Qualifications and Experience
* Experience of working in a clinical environment and managing staff.
* Dynamic, enthusiastic, compassionate with a track record of service development.
* Ability to work independently or as part of the pharmacy and broader multidisciplinary team.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships with colleagues and other healthcare professionals.
* Non-medical prescribing qualification is desirable.
Essential Requirements
* Must be able to obtain the necessary right to work in the United Kingdom.
* PVG Scheme membership is a requirement prior to appointment.
