Therapy Assistant - Stroke Rehabilitation
37.5 hours per week (additional weekend duties as part of a rota).

Main duties of the job
An experienced Band 2, an existing Band 3 Assistant or personnel with experience within the healthcare system should work as a multiskilled therapy assistant as part of the new Coventry and Warwickshire stroke pathway.
The role involves working alongside Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language Therapists in the provision of stroke rehabilitation activities within the inpatient stroke rehabilitation unit (Felix Holt Ward) at George Eliot Hospital.
Job responsibilities
* Assist the Stroke Rehabilitation Therapy team in providing an effective and efficient therapy service.
* Carry out a wide range of therapy programmes including washing, dressing and toilet use with stroke survivors in the ward setting.
* Assist with the running of classes in the inpatient setting.
* Assist with administrative duties, including ordering equipment, record keeping and data inputting.
* Deliver care under delegated responsibility, following established protocols and treatment plans.
* Work unsupervised to implement appropriate treatment plans as designated by a senior therapist, adjusting interventions based on patient needs.
* Ensure treatment methods, frequency and review are appropriate to the diagnosis and within service priorities.
* Participate with the registered therapist in planning, implementing, evaluating and modifying therapy interventions.
* Document client intervention in a timely, objective and confidential manner.
* Maintain positive communication with clients, families or carers and other professionals, respecting individual needs and promoting user involvement.
* Administer therapy interventions in accordance with departmental policy and advise the Team Leader or Senior Therapist if unable to comply.
* Encourage patients and carers to actively participate in regaining and maintaining independence through persuasion and motivation.
* Handle sensitive situations or contentious information appropriately.
* Use efficient and effective communication methods, including electronic communication.

Qualifications and Experience
* Previous experience working in healthcare/therapy assistant/NHS.
* Keyboard skills.
* English and Maths to GCSE level ‘C’ or equivalent.
* NVQ level 2/3 or equivalent practical experience and competencies.
* Ability to work within a team.
* Good interpersonal and communication skills.
* Well organised, good time‑management and the ability to cope with aggression or distress.
* Ability to move equipment and maintain confidentiality of information at all times.
* Able to recognise when to ask for help and manage own time.
* Can work independently and as part of a team.
* Positive ‘can do’ attitude to change with flexible working practices.
* Ability to deal with stress and focus despite interruptions.
* Diplomatic and sensitive to other needs.

* Team player, good timekeeper, able to attend external meetings occasionally.
* Willingness to work flexibly and drive license with access to vehicle.
* Previous experience as a therapy assistant within the acute setting.
