Overview
Uppingham School is seeking a Senior IT Systems Engineer to play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the School’s IT services and infrastructure. Working at the heart of our IT team, you will provide third-line technical support for the School’s IT infrastructure and lead as the technical specialist on infrastructure and systems-related issues. You will deliver a reliable and secure operational service, ensuring systems are automated, monitored and maintained in line with best practice. You will proactively identify and resolve issues, develop operational procedures and collaborate with development colleagues to support advanced automation and service delivery. The role also involves significant project work, including cloud migrations, system upgrades and security, and you will lead the technical delivery of new systems and oversee the deployment, configuration and security of end-user hardware and software across the School. You will be part of a collaborative and people-centred IT team that supports the wider school environment.
Responsibilities
* Provide third-line technical support for the School’s IT infrastructure.
* Act as the lead technical specialist on infrastructure and systems-related issues.
* Deliver a reliable and secure operational service; automate, monitor and maintain systems in line with best practice.
* Proactively identify and resolve issues; develop operational procedures.
* Collaborate with development colleagues to support advanced automation and service delivery.
* Lead the design and delivery of major infrastructure projects (e.g., cloud migrations, system upgrades, security improvements).
* Oversee deployment, configuration and security of end-user hardware and software across the School.
* Contribute to a collaborative IT team focused on providing a high level of service to staff and students.
Qualifications and experience
* Strong technical expertise across PowerShell automation, Microsoft cloud services, Windows operating systems and servers, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS/DHCP and Layer 2/3 networking.
* Experience with firewalls, wireless infrastructure, Veeam and virtualization platforms such as Hyper-V.
* High level of proficiency in Microsoft Intune, RMM patch management and security posture monitoring.
* This is a fully technical role with no line management responsibilities; a proactive approach to technical learning, strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret and refine complex requirements are essential; must work collaboratively within a service-focused environment.
