About The Role

Drive innovation. Shape the future. Power the nation.

At National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET), everything we do keeps the UK moving. From homes and hospitals to businesses and communities, our network makes modern life possible. As the country races toward a cleaner, smarter energy future, we're transforming the way we design, build, and operate our infrastructure – and we need brilliant people to help make it happen.

If you're passionate about innovation, curious about emerging technology, and motivated by the idea of shaping the UK's energy future, this could be the perfect role for you.

As an Innovation Engineer, you'll be at the centre of redefining how major infrastructure projects are delivered across NGET, directly influencing the transition to a low‑carbon future.

You'll drive innovation across the full project lifecycle – identifying opportunities, scaling new ideas, and embedding best practices across the transmission portfolio. You'll stay ahead of emerging energy and technology trends, collaborating closely with project delivery teams to help shape a smarter, more resilient electricity transmission network and accelerate the UK's transition to a cleaner, sustainable energy system.

This role is based in Warwick, and you'll enjoy the flexibility of hybrid working, balancing time in the office with time at home.

Key Accountabilities

Deliver initiatives that align with NGET's innovation strategy, ensuring all activity supports organisational goals and long‑term strategic objectives.
Identify and assess emerging technologies, industry trends, best practices, and market opportunities to drive innovation and enhance performance across major infrastructure projects.
Lead the end‑to‑end innovation process – from idea generation and concept development through to prototyping, testing, implementation, and successful scaling.
Manage innovation governance and reporting requirements, including identifying suitable funding pathways and ensuring all innovation initiatives meet the necessary controls and standards.
Build and maintain strong partnerships with external stakeholders, such as technology providers, research institutions, and industry experts, to bring cutting‑edge expertise and insights into NGET's major project portfolio.

About You

What we do isn't just important – it's essential. That's why we look to recruit experts in their field. In this case, we're looking for someone who has:

Technical expertise in grid technologies and electricity transmission infrastructure.
Experience with innovation in major electricity transmission projects, from early development through to construction and commission phases is highly desirable.
Strong commercial acumen, entrepreneurial mindset, problem-solving skills, and creativity.
In-depth understanding of global energy trends, particularly emerging technologies.
Experience in bringing compelling ideas to life from ideation to the approval of business cases.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels internally and externally.
Strong interpersonal skills and experience in stakeholder management.
Able to comfortably work both in tight collaboration with a team and independently where needed.
Membership of a relevant professional body such as IET.

What You'll Get

A competitive salary between £54,000 - £65,000 – dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
