Role: SEN Teaching Assistant Contract Type: Ad-Hoc, flexible: long-term and permanent opportunities available Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 08:30 - 15:30 (term time only) Salary: £100 - £110 per day (depending on experience) We know you’ve seen the other adverts. Bullet points, buzz words and a long list of ‘essentials’ that make the job sound more like an obstacle course than a calling. This is different. We’re not just looking for a CV - we’re looking for the right people. At Long-Term Teachers, we partner with some of the inspiring specialist schools and alternative provisions across Devon. These settings support young people who’ve often had a rough start - many with complex needs, some with diagnoses like autism, ADHD or SEMH profiles. They need more than just classroom support. They need patience, humour, compassion and someone who won’t give up on them. What’s the job really like? As a Supply SEN Teaching Assistant, you won’t just be ‘filling gaps’. You’ll be part of a flexible workforce that schools trust to step in and bring stability, understanding and energy into the classroom - sometimes at short notice. You’ll support learning, manage behaviours and build positive relationships. Each day could bring something new: Supporting a child with anxiety who hasn’t been in school for weeks Working 1:1 with a non-verbal autistic student to help them express themselves Joining a nurture group to deliver life skills along maths and literacy Whether you’re in for a day or a month, you’ll matter. You’ll make a difference. What we’re looking for: Experience working with children or young people is essential (in schools, care, youth work, camps - you name it!) A calm, adaptable approach and the ability to build rapport quickly Confidence in managing behaviour and setting boundaries A sense of humour and a good dose of resilience Availability during school hours (we work around your schedule - no minimum commitment) Driving is a plus, but not essential Why work with us? We get SEN and AP - we’ve built long-term relationships with settings who trust us You’ll get honest communication, hands-on support and feedback after placements We’ll never pressure you to take roles that don’t feel right Flexible work that fits around you - whether you’re exploring SEN for the first time or you’re an experienced TA seeking variety If you’re the kind of person who sees the student, not just the label, we want to hear from you!
