Offer description

We have an exciting opportunity for Community Specialist Practitioner students to work in District Nursing within Manchester Local Care Organisation.

This is a 53-week Level 7 postgraduate diploma (District Nursing). It can be undertaken as a secondment for internal candidates or as a fixed-term 53-week contract for external applicants. The role is paid at Band 5 for the duration of the course.

Our teams work collaboratively within the Neighbourhoods they serve, delivering and designing services in partnership with local people. We also provide key services across wider localities and citywide. Our pioneering approach aims to significantly improve the health of people in our city, and we invite you to join us in this mission.

The Community Specialist Practitioners’ course prepares practitioners for their role as a District Nurse, aligning with the Professional Standards for Specialist Practice outlined by the NMC (2022). Additionally, from 2016, the QNI Voluntary Standards for District Nursing Education and Practice are adopted.

This opportunity is offered in partnership with Greater Manchester University (formerly Bolton University).

Applicants must have a current first-level registration on part one of the NMC Register and at least 120 credit points at level 6 or APEL equivalent.

Responsibilities include managing an integrated caseload within the Neighbourhood Team, supporting and caring for patients with varying needs, and promoting health, well-being, self-care, and independence.

You will promote clinical excellence through evidence-based practice, comply with trust policies, maintain your clinical competencies, and develop others in a clinical leadership role. You will also develop skills to support clinical management alongside senior team members.

Monitoring of induction, orientation, and preceptorship programs for new staff and students is also part of the role.

Attendance at the University of Bolton and clinical placements in designated areas are required, supported by clinical supervisors and assessors. The approximate ratio of university to clinical practice is 50:50.

MFT is one of the largest NHS Trusts in England, with a turnover of £2.8bn. We are creating an integrated health and social care system for over 1 million patients, bringing together 10 hospitals and numerous community services across Manchester, Trafford, and beyond. We champion collaboration, transformation, and innovation, and our scale offers extraordinary opportunities.

Our digital initiatives, including the Hive Electronic Patient Record launched in September 2022, enhance clinical quality and operational effectiveness. As a major academic research center and education provider, we support high-quality research and are committed to sustainability through our Green Plan.

At MFT, we foster an inclusive culture, provide equal career development opportunities, and prioritize your health and wellbeing as we shape the future of our organization together.
