We are seeking to appoint a forward-thinking, dedicated and motivated clinical research fellow in the Department of Renal Medicine at St Helier Hospital.
This research post (ST4+ level) will be based at the St Helier hospital site, and the starting date is 17th Oct 2025 for a period of 12 months initially and extendable subject to satisfactory feedback and progression to support the successful candidate for a MD(Res)/PhD degree.
This post would suit a candidate who is looking to conduct supervised research and gain experience in Renal Medicine. This job is particularly suited for those in specialist training (with a national training number) and have been allowed Out Of Programme (OOP) from respective deanery or for a Post CCT in Renal Medicine looking to do clinical/translational/basic science research and gain additional experience in Renal Medicine.
This post also has an added benefit in offering valuable clinical experience during the tenure of the candidate exposing to a busy tertiary nephrology centre with high volume of patients afflicted with various types of kidney diseases.
Though the focus of this job is research oriented, The Renal unit at St Helier Hospital being a busy renal unit expects the successful candidate to provide service when required. Due support is provided to offer protected time for research.
Main duties of the job
You will be expected to perform clinical duties and carry out responsibilities expected of ST4+ level doctors and will work as one of a team of 9 registrars. As the post holder, you will be expected to provide ST4+ on-call cover for the Renal Service in a 1 in 9 rota. Those suitable candidates with CCT in Renal Medicine will be allowed to develop their subspecialty interest in Renal Medicine during this tenure in addition to research skills. Adequate clinical management skills, other research opportunities are also available to nurture individual clinical research fellow career aspirations. The unit supports the clinical research fellows in submitting abstracts to international and national conferences and has a very consistent and good track record. The post holder can get trained in clinical research methodology, laboratory techniques, basic and translational research methodology
