Main duties
We are looking for a Junior Sister / Charge Nurse to join the team in medicine on both ward E7 and E12, each on a 12 month secondment basis. E7 provides specialist care for female patients under General Internal Medicine. E12 provides specialist care for patients under the Renal speciality, and additionally supports a short stay service for patients under General Internal Medicine. The successful applicant will be an experienced band 5 registered adult nurse looking to take on further leadership and managerial responsibilities, or an existing band 6 looking for a new challenge. We are looking for applicants who are passionate about delivering high quality care, service improvement and improving patient and staff experience.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
The ward sister/ charge nurse is responsible for the day to day running of the department, while ensuring the ward meets the quality indicators for care. Main roles covered by the ward sister/charge nurse are:
* Ensure staff wellbeing and manage any concerns.
* Promote and initiate local resolution to concerns, and respond to formal complaints when necessary.
* Advocate For Patients And Staff About Service Needs.
* Maintain safety standards including auditing, investigate AERs and patient safety incidents, have oversight on AARs around falls and pressure sores.
* Ensure the ward adheres to health and safety, moving and handling and medication safety policy.
* Ensure staff are managed under the correct human resources policies.
* Ensure staff training and development needs are met.
* Ensure annual appraisals for all staff.
* Be involved with succession planning; development of staff and recruitment, including interviewing.
* Be a bleep holder for staffing within the care group.
* Provide clinical expertise and oversight, working with a large multidisciplinary team to meet service user needs.
* Manage the ward in the absence of the ward leader.

Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience
Essential criteria
* Qualified Nurse (Degree/Diploma)
* Registered nurse on appropriate part of the register
* Significant post registration experience / qualification / training, including experience and knowledge within relevant speciality
* Ward management experience
* Knowledge of current issues within acute Health Service
* Experience in an acute hospital setting
* Provide evidence of supporting / managing a range of learners in practice
* Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
* Ability to demonstrate clinical decision making and judgement
* Commitment to the post and Care Group responsibilities
* Commitment to continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
* Experience in handling adverse events and complaints
* Appraisal skills
* Act in the role of Practice Assessor or supporting the progression of learners / supporting challenges as needed
