Our client, an entity in the aerospace sector, is currently seeking a Part 21J Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team on a contract basis. This role is pivotal for a current Inertial Reference System Installation modification project on a UK-based narrow body, regional jet aircraft. The successful individual will be responsible for designing the mechanical and structural provisions for the Inertial Reference System installation. Working within the UK CAA Part 21J regulatory framework, the role will include facets of mechanical design, systems integration, and build support activities. Key Responsibilities: Designing structural provisions for the installation of Inertial Reference Units Designing an Inertial Reference System control panel (dzus mounted) ensuring avionics/electrical design objectives are met Liaising with avionics/electrical engineers to ensure system installation meets design requirements Defining mechanical installation requirements and instructions Developing and producing mechanical assembly/manufacturing drawings and installation drawings using 2D and/or 3D CAD packages Compiling manufacturing drawings for component procurement and supporting manufacturing activities with the Part 21G Production Organisation Compiling installation drawings for Inertial Reference Units, IRS control panel, and miscellaneous electrical components Compiling wire routing drawings ensuring avionics/electrical design objectives are met Supporting engineering substantiation report production, including Weight and Balance Assessment, Human Factors Assessment and Stress Report Supporting PDR and CDR meetings and related design review activities Liaising with Part 21J Design Organisation and/or Part 21G Production Organisation concerning contractor-related queries Documenting and implementing design changes using Engineering Change Notices Reporting issues impacting design integrity, safety, or quality to the Principal Engineer Supporting aircraft survey activities as required Job Requirements: Experience as a Mechanical/Structural Design Engineer within a UK CAA/EASA Part 21J Design Organisation (DOA) Thorough knowledge of Part 21J Design Organisation and/or Part 21G Production Organisation Approval frameworks Proficiency in 2D CAD Autodesk AutoCAD package Proficiency in 3D CAD Autodesk Fusion 360 or Solidworks packages, or similar relevant CAD software Previous experience designing mechanical/structural provisions for avionics/electrical system integration Familiarity with OEM aircraft manuals, drawings, and procedures Desirable: Previous mechanical check level signatory at a UK CAA/EASA Part 21J DOA Advantageous: Previous modifications experience on aircraft type BAe 146/AVRO RJ Contract Details: Immediate start preferred 3-6 month contract term Work shall be conducted at our client's offices in Rugby, UK
