Speech & Language Therapist (Adult Acute Inpatient)
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Speech & Language Therapist who is keen to develop their clinical skills in the acute adult acute inpatient setting. You should be interested in the management of dysphagia and communication impairment across a broad range of disorders.
The role is based at Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital, with close working with teams on other trust sites, including the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, and possibly Andover War Memorial Hospital when staff are on leave.
We value the development of our staff and offer a wide range of opportunities for training and personal development, including an effective, established program of clinical supervision, peer support, in‑house education and a 12‑month preceptorship programme for newly qualified or early‑career staff. The preceptorship provides support, guidance, and a structured learning programme to create a safe learning environment.
* Provide a Speech & Language Therapy service to a wide-ranging caseload of adults with acquired speech, language and communication disorders.
* Work as an autonomous practitioner, in partnership with patients, their families, carers and other health service colleagues, to deliver integrated packages of care to adults with acquired speech, language and communication difficulties.
* Complete relevant competencies to allow safe, effective patient care, including participation in the trust preceptorship programme.
* When competency is established and it is appropriate, work bank holidays on a rota basis, agreed with the team.
You will work directly with patients across the hospital sites in general wards, with opportunities to observe and develop skills in the management of patients on critical care wards. Across your role, you will work with the MDT to optimise their care.
Accommodation may be offered to successful candidates, depending on availability. If this is something you would like to explore, please contact Southern Housing on 02080 360017.
This advert closes on Sunday 10 May 2026.
