We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Bookkeeper to join our finance team within a dynamic and growing insurance company. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start or develop a career in accounting and finance, with hands-on exposure to financial processes specific to the insurance industry.
The Junior Bookkeeper will support day-to-day financial operations, including ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and assisting with month-end and year-end processes. You’ll work closely with our Finance Manager and wider team to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across all bookkeeping activities.
Key Responsibilities:
* Record and process day-to-day financial transactions (invoices, receipts, payments, etc.)
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date general ledgers
* Reconcile bank statements, accounts payable and receivable
* Assist with processing insurance premium and claim transactions
* Support the preparation of monthly management accounts
* Assist in VAT and other tax filings
* Liaise with internal departments and external suppliers to resolve queries
* Maintain financial records in compliance with company policies and relevant regulations
* Provide administrative support to the finance team as needed
* Contribute to audits and year-end financial reporting
Required Skills & Experience:
* 6–12 months of bookkeeping, accounting or administrative experience (insurance industry preferred but not essential)
* Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
* Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail
* Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel; experience with accounting software (e.g. Sage, QuickBooks, Xero) is a plus
* Strong organisational and time management skills
* Excellent verbal and written communication
* Proactive approach and willingness to learn
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
Qualifications:
* AAT Level 2 or currently studying towards AAT / similar accounting qualification (preferred)
* GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English at Grade 5 / C or above
