Duns Community Nursery (DCN) is a not-for-profit nursery run by staff and parents, based in the Scottish Borders town of Duns.
Our nursery provides a safe, stimulating and caring environment for children and we are passionate about providing the best learning and working environment for all. Any profits made are reinvested into the nursery to give our children the best possible nursery experience.
Our setting is year round with a break at Christmas, opening hours are 07:30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday and our children are 0 – 5 years old. Our staff work a rota of 4 days a week, but we are open to Part-time, Full-time and working reduced hours over 5 days.
We are looking for a qualified nursery practitioner to join our wonderful team. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and implementing activities that promote the physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of the children in their care. This role requires excellent communication skills, a passion for working with children and an understanding of the importance of creating a nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
· To help with the daily operations of the nursery, ensuring a safe, clean and nurturing environment.
· Support the team by promoting best practices in childcare and early education.
· Build positive relationships with children, parents and staff, ensuring clear and effective communication.
· Develop and implement age-appropriate programs and activities that foster children's growth, development, learning, independence and self-confidence.
· Observe and monitor the children using the Curriculum for Excellence and Realising the Ambition.
· Manage administrative tasks including scheduling, record-keeping and reporting. Including the ability to maintain records of the children's progress and development, especially key children under your care.
· Be compliant with all regulatory requirements and nursery policies.
· Attend and contribute to regular staff meetings and training sessions to enhance team performance and professional development.
· Occasionally assist with lunch and snack preparations, as well as aiding and guiding the children to prepare their own food.
· Assist with regular trips and excursions out of the nursery.
To be successful in your nursery practitioner application, you will:
· Be fully qualified with SVQ 3 and HND, or equivalent
· Be registered with SSSC
· Have flexibility in the roles undertaken
· Have strong communication skills
· Register under the PVG scheme
