Test Design Support Engineer Electronics (Defence Manufacturing) Location: Bolton, Greater Manchester Sector: Defence / Advanced Manufacturing
Our client, a global leader in missile and defence technology and a long-standing partner of the UK Ministry of Defence, is seeking an experienced Test Design Support Engineer to join their Production Design Support (PDS) team at their Bolton manufacturing facility.
This is a hands-on engineering role supporting the transition of complex electronic designs into production. You will work closely with design and manufacturing teams, resolve real-world engineering challenges, and support advanced missile programmes and subsystems within a highly regulated defence environment.
This role offers the opportunity to see designs come to life on the shop floor, contribute to mission-critical products, and develop your expertise across a broad range of electronic disciplines.
Key Responsibilities Act as the primary interface between design engineering teams and manufacturing operations
Provide technical design support throughout the manufacturing phase of the product lifecycle
Collaborate with other support engineers to share knowledge and deliver effective solutions
Support advanced module missile programmes and electronic subsystems
Contribute to unique and specialist projects, including launcher assembly support
Investigate design-related manufacturing issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
Prepare and manage discrete work packages, including cost control and delivery of agreed outputs
Produce clear, accurate engineering documentation and technical reports
Work autonomously where required while actively engaging with stakeholders to ensure successful delivery
Skills & Experience To be a strong fit for this role, you will be able to demonstrate several of the following: Essential Degree qualified in an engineering discipline or equivalent industry experience
Experience designing electronic products or supporting designs through manufacturing
Proven experience in one or more of the following areas: Digital and analogue electronics
Power electronics
RF and antenna systems
Safety electronics
Test systems and test equipment
Schematic design
PCB design
Experience working within a multi-disciplinary engineering environment
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical documentation
Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and deliver work packages to agreed timescales
Desirable Experience supporting manufacturing and resolving production issues
Knowledge of BS EN standards and working within regulated environments
Strong investigative and problem-solving skills
A track record of on-time delivery within complex engineering programmes
Security Clearance & Eligibility Due to the nature of the work, British Citizenship or Dual UK nationality with British citizenship is required.
