Legal Counsel - Commercial Contracts
About this role
Capital One is seeking an in-house lawyer within the UK Legal Team to advise on supplier and commercial contracts. Our Contracts team manages risk in engaging suppliers for Capital One, requiring robust supplier contracts. We are looking for a team player with excellent communication, contract drafting and negotiating skills, and commercial acumen. This role offers an exciting career opportunity.
Reporting to a senior Contracts lawyer, you will provide legal advice on contracts with third parties, focusing on outsourcing agreements and operational support services.
What you'll do
1. Draft and negotiate various contractual agreements, including outsourcing, data sharing, SaaS, licenses, purchase terms, and renewal agreements, utilizing Capital One's precedents and reviewing supplier terms.
2. Advise on third-party contracting risks and support the business accordingly.
3. Supervise and mentor junior team members in contract drafting and legal advice.
4. Develop relationships with third-party and sourcing managers, and key business contacts within UK and US offices.
5. Provide advice on financial services regulation related to third-party contracts, escalating as needed.
6. Identify and assess new laws affecting contracting and train relevant teams.
7. Manage workload efficiently and communicate progress to stakeholders.
8. Advise on data protection and international data transfers in contracts.
9. Ensure compliance with contract procedures and policies, escalating risks appropriately.
10. Support personal and team development through feedback, coaching, and mentoring.
