Join to apply for the PC - Prison Intelligence Officer (SERPIT) (CTPSE) role at Thames Valley Police

The South East Regional Prison Intelligence Team (SERPIT) is responsible for gathering and developing intelligence from HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) and other associated establishments relating to national security issues and organised crime.

The prison hub is supported by a number of Prison Intelligence Officers (PIO’s) who are expected to work within the regional establishments. Working alongside HMPPS, they identify and exploit intelligence opportunities with a view of mitigating risk and disrupting offenders.

We now have an opportunity for a PIO to join our team. This post will work in and with prisons in the South East and it will require the candidate to be able to travel to different locations. The role holder will cover Surrey, primarily, and occasionally across the wider Regional area including Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and Thames Valley.

The successful candidate will develop and maintain effective working relationships with Counter Terrorism Units and other partner agencies, tasked with the investigation of matters affecting National Security across the South East Region.

To be successful in this post, you must have excellent communication/interpersonal and problem-solving skills, be able to gather and accurately record information effectively, and recognise sensitive information, maintain discretion, confidentiality and manage risk.

The successful candidate will have completed the Operational Partnership Team “Working in Prisons National Course” and National Prison Debriefing course or be willing and able to undertake training

Developing our talent is important. We recognise that professional progress is important, and, in this role, you will have the opportunity for continuous development

You will be asked to demonstrate flexibility regarding working hours in line with operational demand and occasionally this may require working away from home. For this reason a full UK Driving Licence is essential to the role.

Due to the nature of our work, security is of paramount importance to us and therefore it will be necessary to pass and maintain vetting level SC together with a number of enhanced security checks. In order to achieve this, you must be a British National and have resided in the UK for the past five years. Exemptions may apply for overseas or other diplomatic service (with HM Government), and studying abroad. Please be aware that if successful there are limitations on travelling to a small number of countries once in post

You can find more information about security vetting here.

How To Apply

These steps must be completed prior to submission application. If your application for an opportunity is not approved prior to submission to the recruiting organisation you may not be supported for release to the role, should you be successful.
