Paediatric Dietitian – Fixed Term Maternity Cover
Fixed term (12 months) Band 6 position to cover maternity leave for the Feeding and Eating Disorders Team at Great Ormond Street Hospital. The role supports the highly specialised Feeding and Eating Disorder Paediatric Service and the Mildred Creak Unit (child and adolescent mental health inpatient unit – Tier 4).
Responsibilities
* Provide a comprehensive and quality dietetic FEDS service for both in‑patients and out‑patients, adhering to agreed standards, policies and procedures.
* Use specialised knowledge to manage a caseload in feeding and eating disorders.
* Assess patient needs and make clinical decisions regarding nutritional support and dietary interventions for all children in the caseload, considering diet history, growth, biochemical parameters and relevant drug treatments.
* Interpret normal nutritional requirements for children and adjust them according to the disease process to initiate and maintain treatment plans.
* Attend ward rounds and participate in decision‑making about the patients clinical care.
* Maintain patient records in compliance with departmental standards.
* Communicate complex dietary management information to the multidisciplinary team, providing a holistic approach to patient care.
* Communicate verbally and with written/pictorial resources with patients and carers, taking into account their understanding and sensitivity to ethnic, cultural and religious diversity.
* Organise and plan discharges, coordinating with the local health multidisciplinary team (e.g., GP, health visitor, community paediatric nurses, community paediatrician, dietitian), adjusting short‑ and long‑term care plans.
Qualifications
* Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or an equivalent postgraduate qualification.
* Registered as a Dietitian with the Health and Care Professions Council.
* Post‑graduate experience in general dietetics.
* Significant experience working in clinical paediatrics at Band 6 level.
* Post‑graduate paediatric masters modules (e.g., BDA/University of Plymouth) – desirable.
* Experience in feeding/eating disorders – desirable.
* Knowledge of a specialist area of paediatric dietetics – desirable.
