About the role
We’ve got an exciting opportunity to be part of our “Moment of Change” Bin the Wipe campaign, a region-wide initiative aimed at changing how our customers think about what they flush. Wet wipes are one of the leading causes of sewer blockages and flooding and with your help, we can make a real difference.
Many wipes contain plastic and don’t break down like toilet paper. They clog pipes, cause flooding in homes, and damage our environment. In fact, flushed wipes contribute to over 60% of sewer blockages in the North East. That’s why we’re working hard to raise awareness and encourage one simple change: bin the wipe.
Internally, we call this role Sewerage Maintenance Operative, but it’s so much more than that. You’ll be out in the field, face-to-face with customers, offering practical advice while maintaining the sewer network. You’ll travel across the North East, tackling pollution and flooding, and helping protect homes, communities, and the environment.
Every day brings something new. You’ll be working outdoors, solving problems, and collaborating with a supportive team to deliver outstanding customer service. Health and safety, for you, your colleagues, and our customers, is always a top priority.
If you’re passionate about making a positive impact and enjoy working in a hands-on, customer-focused role, we’d love to hear from you.
About You
To succeed in the Sewerage Maintenance Operative role as part of the Bin the Wipe campaign, candidates need to bring a mix of practical skills, a customer-focused attitude, and a genuine commitment to protecting the environment.
Strong communication is essential, as you'll be engaging directly with customers to raise awareness and offer advice. You should be comfortable solving problems on the spot, working collaboratively with your team, and adapting to new challenges each day. A background in fieldwork or maintenance is helpful, but not required, we’ll provide the training you need.
You’ll be working outdoors in all weather conditions, so physical fitness and resilience are important. A reliable and safety-conscious approach is key, as is a respectful and friendly manner when dealing with members of the public. If you’re someone who takes pride in making a visible impact in your community and enjoys hands-on work, this role offers a meaningful way to do just that.
A full valid manual driving licence is required for this role.
