Health and Safety Advisor
Location: Plymouth
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £35,000–£45,000
Sphere Solutions are looking for an experienced and confident Health and Safety Advisor to join our client’s team and use their knowledge and influence to drive the creation of a strong safety-first culture.
Reporting to, and working closely with, the Health and Safety Manager, you will provide expert guidance and leadership on health and safety practices, supporting construction, refurbishment and operational teams to achieve compliance with relevant legislation.
Role Responsibilities
1. Provide professional, best-practice health and safety support across site, with a strong initial focus on CDM Regulations 2015
2. Act as a visible safety leader, promoting a proactive and positive safety culture
3. Lead investigations into incidents, accidents and near misses, ensuring effective root cause analysis and corrective actions
4. Deliver and coordinate health and safety training, toolbox talks and inductions
5. Support contractor management, including onboarding, audits and performance monitoring
6. Review and support method statements, safe systems of work and permits
7. Maintain and continuously improve the Health & Safety Management System
8. Carry out site inspections, audits and risk assessments to ensure compliance
9. Monitor and report on HSE performance, trends and audit findings
10. Liaise with regulators, including the HSE, and support inspections as required
Candidate Requirements
11. Solid working knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015
12. NEBOSH qualification (or equivalent) in Occupational Health and Safety
13. Demonstrable experience in a Health & Safety-focused role
14. Good understanding of ISO 45001, with the ability to integrate alongside ISO 14001
15. Experience carrying out incident investigations using recognised methodologies such as ICAM or Root Cause Analysis
16. Strong IT capability, including H&S management software and Microsoft Office
17. Experience within heavy industry, processing or construction (highly desirable)
18. First Aid, Fire Marshal and/or Environmental qualifications (desirable)
19. Due to the location of the office and this being on a live site, all employees are required to complete a Drugs and Alcohol test and must have a full driving license and access to their own vehicle.
