Overview
Senior Social Worker – Duty & Assessment Team, based in Northamptonshire (NN2). Full-time, permanent position. Salary up to £46,704 per annum.
Responsibilities
* Work independently to manage a more complex caseload with appropriate levels of responsibility aligned to your knowledge and skills.
* Work directly with children, young people and families, involving all key family members and prioritising children’s safety. Use Signs of Safety methodology to collaborate with families to empower them to find solutions while working within Children’s Services policies and regulatory standards.
* Carry out in-depth and ongoing family assessments of social need and risk to children, with particular focus on parental capacity and capacity to change.
* Recognise harm and risk indicators relating to sexual, physical and emotional abuse and neglect. Consider Child Sexual Exploitation, grooming (online and offline), female genital mutilation, forced marriage, and the potential for children to be perpetrators of abuse.
* Navigate the family and youth justice systems in England using legal powers and duties to support families, protect children and look after children in care, including permanence options.
* Participate in decisions about whether to apply to the family court, which order to apply for, and the preparation and presentation of evidence.
* Seek advice and professional second opinions as required regarding legal issues, interventions and plans affecting children, young people and families involved with statutory services.
* Use the law and regulatory and statutory guidance to inform practice decisions, balancing professional ethics, the application of the law and the impact of social policy.
* Make realistic, child-centred plans within a review timeline that manage and reduce identified risks and meet the child’s needs.
* Maintain and update case notes and other records; write reports as required and provide evidence in court when needed.
* Contribute to planning and reviewing the cases of children in care, and supervise fostering/adoption arrangements.
Qualifications/Requirements
* A Social Work qualification or equivalent.
* Understanding of relevant legislation.
* Registered or eligible for registration.
