An opportunity is available for a Head of Projects. The Head of Projects will be responsible for managing the Primary distribution systems and Major Projects within our East Midlands Electricity Distribution area.
Reporting to the Major Projects Director, you will manage the portfolio of investment and regulated funding across all projects and programmes end-to-end, ensuring that deliverables meet or exceed stakeholder expectations. This includes forward planning 10 years ahead, covering all project phases from mobilisation, design, build, and commissioning to benefits realisation. The role also involves managing operational programmes, such as fault management, to be developed, operated, and maintained efficiently and in compliance with legislation, policies, and standards.
You will work closely with the PMO to ensure all project delivery practices and methodologies are aligned and role-modeled within your region. Each region has a Major Projects capital spend exceeding 0.5 billion GBP over the next five years.
The role can be based in Derby, Hinckley, or Grantham, with the location to be agreed upon with the successful candidate.
This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, combining office and home working, which is applicable after initial training and subject to business needs.
Main Responsibilities
* Engage, motivate, and lead a team of Managers and operational functions.
* Set objectives, monitor performance, and control primary Distribution activities in the region.
* Ensure high-quality service delivery to customers in the Distribution Area.
* Coordinate the formulation and management of Capital and Revenue Budgets, including expenditure control.
* Promote and drive a safety culture.
* Manage all major capital projects/programmes from end-to-end, ensuring they meet time, cost, and quality targets.
* Design, sign-off, implement, and manage a new operating model.
* Implement and embed governance and controls in partnership with the PMO.
* Translate high-level business plans into operational delivery plans, including decisions on insourcing vs. outsourcing.
* Oversee the lifecycle of all projects, from appointment of project leaders to project closure.
* Define WBS and support schedule creation across programmes.
* Track projects against time, cost, quality, contractual, and regulatory requirements, including forecasting and lessons learned.
* Ensure effective risk, issue, and opportunity management.
* Embed governance, compliance, and performance reporting.
* Monitor and control programme compliance with contractual obligations.
* Champion best practices and consistency across the wider matrix organization.
Ideal Candidate
* Exceptional people leader with experience managing large engineering/construction teams, both insourced and outsourced.
* Proven project/programme/portfolio leader with a track record in leading teams in project functions, especially in large capital infrastructure or high-volume service environments, with strong data analysis skills.
* Highly curious, confident in leading change, and proactive in seeking improvements.
* Experience in the electricity, energy, or regulated industries is desirable but not essential. The key is the ability to influence stakeholders at senior levels across various environments, including customers, partners, and suppliers. #LI-HYBRID #LI-SC1
