Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Stakeholder Manager to lead and coordinate all stakeholder engagement activities on a major nuclear and civils infrastructure project in Whitehaven. The role is critical to maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clear communication, managing expectations, and supporting the safe and timely delivery of works within a highly regulated nuclear environment.
The Stakeholder Manager will act as a key interface between the project, the client, regulators, local authorities, community representatives, and other interested parties, ensuring that stakeholder considerations are integrated into project planning and delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Stakeholder Strategy & Management
Develop, implement, and maintain the project Stakeholder Management Plan in line with client and nuclear programme requirements
Identify, map, and prioritise stakeholders, including client representatives, regulators, local authorities, emergency services, utilities, landowners, and community groups
Manage stakeholder risks and issues, ensuring potential impacts to programme, safety, and reputation are identified and mitigated
Engagement & Communication
Act as the primary point of contact for stakeholder engagement on the project
Coordinate and lead stakeholder meetings, briefings, and consultations
Prepare clear, accurate, and timely communications, reports, and briefing materials
Ensure stakeholder feedback and concerns are captured, tracked, and responded to appropriately
Interface & Issue Resolution
Work closely with project, construction, logistics, planning, and design teams to ensure stakeholder requirements are understood and embedded
Support the resolution of stakeholder‑related issues, disputes, or objections
Manage interfaces with statutory bodies and third‑party stakeholders affected by project activities
Governance, Reporting & Assurance
Maintain accurate stakeholder registers, action logs, and communication records
Provide regular stakeholder status updates to senior project leadership and the client
Support audits, assurance reviews, and regulatory scrutiny related to stakeholder engagement
Ensure compliance with information security, confidentiality, and nuclear site protocols
Skills & Experience
Essential
Proven experience in a Stakeholder Manager or Stakeholder Engagement role on major construction, civils, or infrastructure projects
Experience working in highly regulated or safety‑critical environments (nuclear, energy, defence, or similar)
Strong understanding of stakeholder management principles and governance
Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship‑building skills
Ability to manage sensitive issues professionally and discreetly
Strong organisational and reporting skills
Eligible for UK security clearance
Desirable
Previous experience on nuclear‑licensed sites or nuclear infrastructure programmes
Experience engaging with local authorities, emergency services, utilities, and community stakeholders
Familiarity with major infrastructure frameworks or government‑funded programmes
Qualifications
Essential
Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline (e.g. project management, communications, engineering, or public relations)
Desirable
APM, PRINCE2, or similar project management qualification
Formal training in stakeholder or communications management
