Overview
The Trust is seeking to appoint a substantive 2 Consultant Gastroenterologists, one with an interest in Hepatology and one with an interest in luminal Gastroenterology. These appointments will join the existing 16 Gastroenterologists and will work across the Trust’s three sites: Andover War Memorial Hospital, Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, and the Royal Hampshire County Hospital.
Current Specialties and Services
The current consultants provide sub-speciality interests in upper and lower therapeutic endoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease, hepatology, nutrition, pancreatobiliary and motility/functional disease. Existing services include bowel cancer screening, ERCP and spyglass, endoscopic ultrasound, advanced GI physiology and capsule endoscopy.
Responsibilities
* Involve in-patient gastroenterology and general internal medicine (GIM) and participate in approximately 1:9 acute GI bleed on-call alongside a 7-day inpatient service in Basingstoke, reviewing new admissions with Gastroenterology input over the weekend.
* Deliver service across the whole Trust with cross-site working across Andover War Memorial Hospital, Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, and the Royal Hampshire County Hospital.
* Provide inpatient gastroenterology in Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital and the Royal Hampshire County Hospital and undertake outpatient clinics at all Trust sites, including Alton Community Hospital.
* Utilise fully equipped and JAG-accredited Endoscopy suites for bowel cancer screening, ERCP, EUS and a range of interventional procedures.
Location and Service Delivery
The Consultant Gastroenterologist will be responsible for service delivery across the whole Trust, therefore cross-site working across 3 sites is required. Endoscopy suites are located at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Andover War Memorial Hospital and North Hampshire Hospital. Outpatient clinics operate at all three sites and at Alton Community Hospital.
Support and Resources
There is full secretarial support with an administration team including a Speciality Co-ordinator (Gastroenterology) and support staff based at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital and the Royal Hampshire County Hospital. Each Consultant has dedicated office space and supporting IT.
Management and Divisional Structure
The Trust has three Clinical Divisions, each managed by a Medical Director (Senior Clinician). The role is supported by a full-time Operational Service Manager and a full-time management accountant. Operational management is devolved to Divisional Management Boards where appropriate. Consultants are encouraged and expected to liaise with their Divisional Director and clinical colleagues to resolve operational issues. Each Divisional Director is a member of the Trust Executive Board, chaired by the Chief Executive.
