Job Description
Volunteer Manager | £43,000 | Hertfordshire | Hybrid | Full-time
Smyth & Co are delighted to be partnering with a growing healthcare charity to recruit a Volunteer Manager for an exciting new initiative. This is a full-time, hybrid role based in Hertfordshire, offering a salary of £43,000.
The charity is launching a new community-based volunteer service providing compassionate, non-clinical support to people who need it most. This is an important and ambitious step for the organisation, with the potential for the model to be replicated by communities across the UK.
They are now seeking a Volunteer Manager to lead the delivery of this new service.
In this role, you will be responsible for recruiting, training and supporting a team of volunteers, coordinating referrals, and thoughtfully matching volunteers with individuals and families. You will ensure the service operates safely, effectively and with compassion, maintaining strong safeguarding practices and clear professional boundaries.
You will also build and maintain trusted relationships with key community partners, including GP practices, Primary Care Networks, community nursing teams, hospices and care homes. Acting as a key point of contact, you will help ensure referral pathways remain clear, accessible and responsive.
Alongside service delivery, you will capture learning and feedback from volunteers, partners and families, monitor the service’s impact, and contribute to ongoing evaluation and development as the pilot grows.
Who we’re looking for
We are looking for someone who brings empathy, organisation and confidence to a people-focused role.
Ideally, you will have:
* Experience recruiting, training and supporting volunteers
* Strong relationship-building skills and experience working with community partners
* A good understanding of safeguarding, boundaries and supporting people in sensitive situations
* Excellent organisational and coordination skills, including managing referrals and records
* A reflective and compassionate approach when supporting individuals and families
This role would suit someone who is purpose-driven, comfortable working with complexity, and excited by the opportunity to help shape and develop a new service from the ground up. It offers the chance to make a meaningful impact within a growing, supportive charity with strong family values.
