Primary Purpose of the Role:
Support the Thales business to deliver Oracle and Oracle E-Business lifecycle events (projects, upgrades, changes, etc.) and support of Oracle databases and Oracle E-Business systems

3. Database Support for Oracle E-Business and other Oracle based databases
The role reports to the Applications & Development Chapter Lead and is a member of the Applications Management Support Team
Principal Relationships (beyond the UK IS team):
Thales Core Team in France.
Business Stakeholders – Business Service owners
Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
4. Installation, configuration and upgrading of Oracle server software and related products
5. Evaluate Oracle features and Oracle related products
6. Establish and maintain sound backup and recovery policies and procedures
7. Database design and implementation
8. Implement and maintain database security (create and maintain users and roles, assign privileges)
9. Perform database tuning and performance monitoring
10. Perform application tuning and performance monitoring
11. Setup and maintain documentation and standards
12. Plan growth and changes (capacity planning)
13. Work as part of a team
14. Perform general technical trouble shooting and give consultation to development teams
15. Interface with Oracle Corporation for technical support.
16. Patch Management and Version Control
17. AD Utilities, Cloning and patching applications
18. Backups/Restores/Clones of E-Business and None E-Business systems.
Skills
Essential
Good understanding of the Oracle database, related utilities and tools
19. A good understanding of the underlying operating system
20. A good knowledge of the physical database design
21. Ability to perform both Oracle and operating system performance tuning and monitoring
22. Knowledge of ALL Oracle backup and recovery scenarios
23. A good knowledge of Oracle security management
24. A good knowledge of how Oracle acquires and manages resources
25. A good knowledge Oracle data integrity
26. Sound knowledge of the implemented application systems
27. Experience in code migration, database change management and data management through the various stages of the development life cycle
28. Sound communication skills with management, development teams, vendors and systems administrators
29. Contribute to a strategic database direction for the organisation
30. Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines
31. Knowledge of Concurrent Managers and SYSADMIN activities
32. Knowledge of Backup and recovery (RMAN, hot and cold backups)
