We’re excited to offer an excellent opportunity to join our dedicated Fire Safety team as a Fire Safety Surveyor. In this role, you will take the lead in overseeing fire risk assessment activities across Southern Housing’s portfolio. Key responsibilities include:
Ensuring that all designated fire risk assessment works are actioned and correctly undertaken within the prescribed timescales.Ensuring that all Southern Housing’s properties owned and managed properties are maintained to the highest possible standards and that all statutory and regulatory requirements are met.Analysing and assessing building fire safety related defects and deficiencies, providing remedial proposals and prepare specifications for remedial works. Carrying out post inspection/quality control checks on works and pursuing any necessary redress to achieve satisfactory completion.Carrying out H&S spot checks and monitoring contractors to ensure they are working safely and complying with all relevant Health & Safety risk assessments and method statements.Ensuring that staff, residents, leaseholders, managing agencies and property owners are provided with a high standard of service.You will conduct inspections across East & West Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire, and the Isle of Wight. The role includes occasional travel, with overnight stays on the Isle of Wight every 2–3 months and monthly visits to our Farringdon office for team meetings. You will be expected to work on-site at least four days per week, with the remaining day spent working from home or from an office location.
What you’ll need
Experience as a fire/building surveyor in a maintenance environment carrying out pre and post inspectionsFire Qualification NEBOSH fire or equivalent.Working knowledge of the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005.Experience of working with contractors using SOR and non-SOR contracts.The ability to produce detailed specifications of work.Knowledge of relevant and current, codes of practice, building regulations, health and safety legislation, standards and materials.An in-depth knowledge of construction, design and fire related defects and how to correct them.Knowledge of contract management.A Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle. Membership of RICS, CIOB, IFE or similar professional organisation is desirable but not essential.
