The role of Inclusion Support Worker in our Primary and specialist settings across Cheshire East focuses on supporting children who may require additional help to fully access learning and school life, working on an ad hoc basis across multiple school environments in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. The role involves working closely with teachers and school staff to provide tailored support for pupils with a range of additional needs, including social, emotional, behavioural, and learning needs, helping children to feel safe, included, and confident within the classroom. Inclusion Support Workers may support pupils on a one-to-one basis or in small groups, help to adapt learning activities, encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation, and promote independence and self-esteem. The role also includes building positive relationships with children, supporting transitions throughout the school day, contributing to a calm and inclusive learning environment, and sharing observations with staff, while always prioritising safeguarding and the wellbeing of every child.
Roles and Responsibilities
1. Provide tailored support to children with additional needs to help them access learning and fully participate in school life
2. Work one-to-one or with small groups of pupils across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2
3. Support children with social, emotional, behavioural, and learning needs in a calm, consistent, and nurturing way
4. Help adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual needs, following guidance from the class teacher and SENCO
5. Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, independence, and self-confidence
6. Build trusting, supportive relationships with pupils to help them feel safe, valued, and included
7. Support children during transitions throughout the school day, including between lessons and activities
8. Assist in creating a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment
9. Observe and record pupils’ progress, engagement, and wellbeing, sharing feedback with teaching staff
10. Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, SENCOs, and wider school teams
11. Support pupils during unstructured times such as playtimes or lunchtimes when required
12. Follow school policies and procedures at all times, particularly those relating to safeguarding and behaviour
13. Promote the welfare, safety, and wellbeing of all children in your care
Relevant Qualifications
14. Minimum Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ Level 2/3, or equivalent)
15. GCSEs in English and Maths (or equivalent functional skills)
16. Experience or training in SEND, SEMH, or behaviour support is desirable
17. Paediatric First Aid or willingness to undertake training
18. Safeguarding/Child Protection training or willingness to complete upon appointment
19. Any additional specialist training (e.g., Makaton, Positive Behaviour Support, Attachment Awareness) is an advantage
