Overview
Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is a globally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and research in tropical diseases. Ranked in the top 5.3% of universities in the world, 1st overall in the latest UK Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey, and 2nd in the UK for research impact through REF2021. Our Vector Biology Department is one of the largest in the world, with strengths in genomics, insecticide resistance, and evaluation of novel interventions. We seek to expand our research to investigate vector–pathogen interactions, anthropogenic change on vector-borne diseases, and diversification of disease systems.
With access to state-of-the-art insectaries and CL3 containment facilities, a new Human Challenge Facility, and opportunities to embed field-based and translational research (including Malawi through the MLW Programme), this role offers a multidisciplinary environment to translate mechanistic insight into real-world disease control.
Responsibilities and opportunities
* Lead and develop research in vector biology, including vector–pathogen interactions and translational projects.
* Collaborate across the Vector Biology Department and with LSTM hubs and partner programmes.
* Embed field-based and translational research activities, including Malawi MLW collaborations.
* Contribute to teaching, supervision, and leadership within a HEI setting.
Qualifications and experience
* PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject area.
* Extensive knowledge of vector biology with current research impact; international reputation.
* Experience in strategic leadership in a higher education setting; governance and administration experience.
* Experience in securing significant external funding (grants/contracts) and leading multidisciplinary teams.
* Strong record of international peer-reviewed publications.
