Overview

Job Description

Royal Voluntary Service has an opportunity available for a Communications & Social Media Officer to join our Communications Team, working from home. This is a full-time, permanent role with a salary range of £26,749 to £30,570 per annum, depending on experience.

About the Communications & Social Media Officer role: Royal Voluntary Service has developed a game-changing new digital platform, GoVo, to boost volunteering in Britain with £5 million funding from the Postcode Lottery. GoVo aims to address the volunteer shortage facing charities in the UK and was launched in Autumn 2025 to remove barriers to volunteering, making it easier for people to give their time and for organisations to recruit and retain support.

What you’ll bring to the Communications & Social Media Officer role

As Communications & Social Media Officer, you will support the development and delivery of effective communications to the charity’s external and internal stakeholders. You will split your time between the Communications and Social Media teams, with responsibilities including lifecycle communications and social content for Royal Voluntary Service and GoVo.

Half of your time will focus on planning, developing and analysing lifecycle communications and standalone emails that encourage action and influence behaviour among key audiences (volunteers, charities and corporates) for Royal Voluntary Service and GoVo/GoVo for Business. The remainder will involve developing engaging social content for the charity’s national pages and for GoVo, and managing community interactions.

Hours: 35 per week

Location: Homebased with occasional national travel

* Support the creation and ongoing improvement of automated email journeys using platforms such as HubSpot and Dotdigital
* Help segment audiences using behavioural and engagement data to ensure timely and relevant communications

* Support a test-and-learn approach by refining messaging, timing and sequencing based on results and feedback
* Provide practical recommendations to improve the effectiveness of lifecycle communications over time
* Monitor trends, tools and best practices to inform strategies

Develop social media content

* Explore, develop and schedule content on our main social media accounts, ensuring requests are addressed and colleagues are kept up-to-date with plans
* Support the fundraising team to advertise fundraising events and increase donation revenue

Community management

* Interact with audiences; respond to comments and questions promptly, professionally and positively; escalate issues as needed to protect the charity’s reputation

* Produce engaging copy for volunteers, the public, charities and staff
* Support internal communications activities, including staff updates and webinars
* Collaborate with colleagues to deliver communications aligned to organisational priorities
