Opportunity
Due to continued expansion and company growth, an excellent opportunity has arisen for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to work as part of the Research & Development Department based in Leeds, reporting to the Principal Electrical Engineer. This role involves working closely with a cross‑functional team to design and develop new standard HVAC products while maintaining the existing product portfolio.
Responsibilities
* Collaborate with mechanical, controls, manufacturing and quality engineers to design and develop new HVAC products.
* Work with Product Development teams to develop electrical designs in accordance with APQP and relevant SOM guidelines from concept through launch.
* Create design briefs for company‑wide approval, hit cost targets and design electrical infrastructure with customer, manufacturing and assembly in mind.
* Support the Product Development Controls team to bring electrical and controls design to fruition, and support changes to the current portfolio.
* Ensure electrical aspects of new components are properly tested prior to introduction.
* Oversee electrical build, wiring best practice, test and approval of prototypes.
* Conduct EMC testing and other required testing.
* Provide product introduction support and training.
* Document and release design modifications and engineering changes.
* Carry out electrical design for a range of HVAC systems, ensuring safe operation and compliance with legislation.
* Select and size electrical components, motors, cabling using engineering calculations and best practice.
* Communicate internally at all levels to provide technical advice and improvement suggestions.
* Attend site meetings and trade shows as required.
* Build standard electrical CAD drawing generators, symbol libraries and circuits using AutoCAD.
* Produce accurate parts lists and design control panel, terminal lists and layouts.
Requirements
* Hold a technical degree and have 5+ years experience with electrical design, preferably within the HVAC or machine design sector.
* Knowledge of UKCA and CE marking process.
* Knowledge/understanding of PLC controllers.
* Experience with 3‑phase power circuits and low‑voltage control circuits.
* Ability to source appropriate components.
* Knowledge and awareness of current legislation affecting electrical design and testing.
* Proactive, self‑initiated work approach with good attention to detail.
