As a SEMH Teaching Assistant / HLTA you will work with a specialist team supporting up to 12 pupils with personalised learning, planned integration into mainstream classes, classroom management and emotional wellbeing support. The SEMH Teaching Assistant / HLTA will provide 1:1 and small group support, deliver interventions, promote positive behaviour and help pupils build confidence, independence and resilience. DUTIES Your duties as the SEMH Teaching Assistant / HLTA include: Learning Support: Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs in the Unit and mainstream classes Interventions: Deliver tailored activities that support engagement, progress and confidence Behaviour Support: Help implement behaviour plans, EHCP targets and strategies that promote self-esteem and independence Personal Care: Support pupils with toileting, hygiene, dressing, eating, welfare and health matters where required Progress Monitoring: Record achievements, share feedback with teachers and contribute to pupil records Partnership Working: Communicate effectively with teachers, families, therapists and external professionals Teaching Assistant Duties: Arrange resources, support planned activities, assist with supervision, visits and basic ICT HLTA Duties: Plan, prepare, deliver and adapt structured learning for individuals, groups and classes HLTA Support: Assess, record and report progress, contribute to individual development plans and liaise with external agencies HLTA Leadership: Provide specialist advice and supervise or support other classroom staff when required CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS ESSENTIAL SEMH Support: Experience supporting primary age children, pupils with SEND or pupils with additional support needs Behaviour Management: Calm, patient and confident approach to supporting challenging behaviour and emotional barriers to learning Communication: Strong ability to build trusting relationships and exchange information clearly with staff and parents / carers Safeguarding: Awareness of child protection, confidentiality, health and safety and safe working practices Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively and adapt support to individual learning needs Teaching Assistant Level: Working at or towards Level 2 NVQ, Certificate or equivalent in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or willingness to train HLTA Level: Knowledge equivalent to NVQ Level 3 with specialist expertise, or working knowledge of HLTA standards DESIRABLE Learning Activities: Ability to support, lead or contribute to planning and evaluation of learning activities Specialist Support: Understanding of SEN, SEMH, pastoral care, therapy or care programmes and personalised learning HLTA Planning: Ability to plan, prepare and deliver structured learning activities to individuals, groups and classes Staff Support: Experience demonstrating duties to new colleagues or providing day-to-day support to classroom staff WHY JOIN?
