We are seeking a resilient, compassionate, and motivated Teaching Assistant to join our team. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of vulnerable learners with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, challenging behaviour, or other complex needs.
Responsibilities
* Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging, inclusive, and adapted lessons
* Support students in managing their emotions and behaviour in a positive, proactive way
* Build strong, trusting relationships with students, helping to boost confidence, engagement, and achievement
* Help to implement individual learning plans and behaviour strategies
* Support with the daily running of the classroom and maintain a safe, structured learning environment
* Liaise with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to support holistic development
Qualifications
Essential:
* Experience working with children or young people with additional needs, preferably in a PRU, alternative provision, or similar setting
* Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
* Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Desirable:
* Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Youth Work, or Psychology)
* Experience with SEMH, trauma-informed practice, or restorative approaches
* Understanding of EHCPs, safeguarding procedures, and SEND Code of Practice
