Newcastle University is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant/Associate in Experimental Evolutionary Ecology to join a dynamic research team within the School of Natural and Environmental Sciences. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting‑edge research focused on evolutionary ecology using experimental approaches.
The successful candidate will work on a research project investigating evolutionary and ecological processes, contributing to the design and execution of laboratory‑based experiments, data collection, and advanced statistical analysis. The role involves maintaining experimental systems, managing datasets, and ensuring rigorous documentation of research activities. The appointee will also be expected to contribute to the preparation of research publications, present findings at academic meetings, and collaborate with internal and external research partners.
The position is available at either Research Assistant or Research Associate level depending on qualifications and experience. The role is fixed‑term for a specified project duration and is based in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment. Eligibility Criteria
* For the Research Assistant level, candidates should hold a good honours degree in a relevant subject such as ecology, evolutionary biology, or a closely related discipline.
* For the Research Associate level, applicants must hold a PhD (or be close to completion) in a relevant field.
Required Expertise/Skills
* Experience in experimental ecology or evolutionary biology research, including laboratory‑based experimental design and implementation.
* Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including experience with statistical analysis software.
* Experience in handling biological systems, data management, and scientific writing.
* The ability to work both independently and collaboratively, alongside strong organisational and communication skills.
Salary Details
£31,637 to £45,413 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience).
